PECAN Network

Improving outcomes for intermediate- and high-risk PE patients

About Us

Pulmonary Embolism Canada (PECAN) is a national network that has been newly established to improve outcomes for intermediate- and high-risk PE patients. Through education, knowledge translation, and research, we are coordinating with multi-disciplinary stakeholders across the country to implement best-practice PE treatment, and advance our understanding of how these patients should be treated in the future.

PECAN was established with the goal of improving care for patients with intermediate- and high-risk PE in Canada. The three core pillars of PECAN are:

  1. Implementation of clinical systems of best practice care

  2. Epidemiology to understand current management, outcomes, and disparities

  3. Clinical research to advance Canadian PE patient outcomes

The Numbers:

40%

Potential level of mortality for intermediate to high-risk PE patients

46K+

Canadians affected by Pulmonary Embolism (PE) each year
